“For You, O Lord, will bless the righteous; with favor You will surround him as with a shield [Psalms 5:12 – NKJV]”
One who is intimate with God will experience continuous favor. The above verse says God surrounds the righteous with his favor and describes it as a shield. Why shield? Well that’s because there will be times of recession, depression, darkness etc. that the world will be experiencing, God will protect you with his favor from those situations. I don’t mean to brag but in all the 21 years of my career, whenever there was a national or worldwide recession, the company I worked with never got affected by it, instead it did exceeding well during those times and I have worked with three different companies all these years.
Noah is a perfect example of how he found grace and favor when the whole world turned evil. If we stay with God, we will have nothing to worry about, we will find his favor even in unfavorable circumstances. So, let not circumstance dictate our joy, let our joy come from the Lord (who is forever).
“And the Lord said, I will wipe this human race I have created from the face of the earth. Yes, and I will destroy every living thing all the people, the large animals, the small animals that scurry along the ground, and even the birds of the sky. I am sorry I ever made them. But Noah found favor with the Lord. [Genesis 6:7-8 – NLT]”
God’s intention for us is to learn from him, through his word firstly and then through his Holy Spirit, to learn what happened (in the Old and New Testaments), understand his heart, understand how much he loves us, receive his love and share it with others.
“Now these things became our examples, to the intent that we should not lust after evil things as they also lusted. And do not become idolaters as were some of them [1 Corinthians 10:6-7 – NKJV]”
“Now all these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have come [1 Corinthians 10:11 – NKJV]”
It’s clear that God will reveal himself to us more and more each time we seek to know him better.
He wants us to read and learn from scripture and apply what we learn from him in our lives, if we begin doing that then, we will begin to see changes in our lives. This is the beginning to growth and success. However, there is one important principle that God teaches us:
“If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones. But if you are dishonest in little things, you won’t be honest with greater responsibilities [Luke 16:10 – NLT]”
If we want to see God’s continuous favor in our lives and want to grow and succeed, then we ought to be faithful to our responsibilities and to God, then only can we be entrusted with greater things that help us to grow. We may make mistakes and fall, but we ought to accept responsibility for our mistakes and grow from them. Growth and success means a life of correction and change. Are we willing?
Next, we shall see some important traits that we need to have in order to experience his favor continuously.
Note: As I write this, I myself am learning and applying these principles into my life. I haven’t reached my destination but I’ve certainly started my journey.
