“This is the covenant I will establish with the people of Israel after that time, declares the Lord. I will put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people. No longer will they teach their neighbor, or say to one another, ‘Know the Lord,’ because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest.” [Hebrews 8:10-11 – NIV]
In this verse God says that He wants to put His laws in our minds and write them on our hearts. God has often seen how man can be hypocritical in trying to teach others the law but themselves not following it as he says in [Matthew 7:5 – NKJV] “Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye”. Moreover God wants a personal relationship with each of us, he does not want us to depend on others to have a relationship with Him, this was evident from the very beginning when He created man, He gave Him a command [Genesis 2:17 – NIV] “you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil”. Have you ever wondered why God would not want us to know about good and evil, is it good if we knew and could distinguish between good and evil. It’s because God wants to be our teacher of these things, he wants to show us and reveal to us directly in our hearts what’s good for each of us.
Let me take an example, a person who loves to eat a lot of food, could end up being a glutton, if God would teach such a person how to deal with food and when to resist and when to have it would tremendously benefit this person. But putting down a global law that we all should eat less food or be restricted to certain kinds of foods would be a bad idea especially for someone who really has no interest in food and is in fact weak in body because of lack of nutrition, such a person would really need to have all the food that he can eat. So you see it is different for different people and God would like to teach each of us what’s good for us, because what’s good for me may not be good for you.
So let God personally teach you what is right and wrong for you and this he’ll do as you get closer to Him and the only way to get closer to Him is through His Word. So meditate on His Word and your relationship with Him will blossom and that’s when He’ll begin writing on your hearts.
